House-made goulash with hunks of bread, traditional strudel, imported Czech and Slovakian beers (lovers of Pilsner will be salivating at the delicious range) - what a tasty spot!
Gastronomic delights aside, Czech House is an interesting find even in multicultural Melbourne, hosting a variety of live music performances in an authentic Eastern European atmosphere.
We enjoyed the performance of a highly entertaining jazz singer and band who had the crowd mesmerised. She was not Czech, but many featured acts are.
With heavy velvet curtains and a scattering of tables lit by tea lights and facing the stage, the venue is more like a cabaret-style club than a bar or pub. At the back of the room is a small bar offering the aforementioned beer imports as well as standard drinks, and there is another level upstairs with a room adorned by Czech flags and the like. This level is used for functions and certain events, and importantly, it also houses the venue's bathrooms.
Czech House comes highly recommended, but with the focus being on performances, make sure you suss out what's on first. Info on acts can be found at the website.
