Venue type: Bar
Review: Julie Whiting
An interesting addition to Smith Street, this versatile venue has good coffee by day and great beer at night. And there's always lots of motion to look at. For example the projector above the door that shows the street outside, allowing people-watching incognito; and the sliding door that has a spooky-looking weight dangling on one end. Then there's the grandiose staircase which leads to the bar Gone With The Wind style. Other quirky touches include the funky retro wallpaper and bric a brac scattered about.
Kent Street's dedication to art doesn't stop at the kooky decorations, as its upstairs gallery showcases the talents of local creatives. Other entertainment on Kent's calendar includes movies, live music and music on sale.
Second Opinion
One of those great venues full of clutter and second hand bits and pieces. Intimate, with a tiny bar, Kent Street needs only half a dozen people to create instant atmosphere.
