And while most of Burke Road may look like a ghost town after 5pm on a Friday, if you slip around the corner and down the stairs into this basement space, you will find a secret world is blossoming. Bar None is kind of grown up and civilised, as befits the neighbourhood, with a tempting wine list and anti-grunge decor. But it does its middle-class thing with style and a real sense of hospitality.

It's the place you go when you have outgrown all the other venues in the area and don't mind paying a little extra to get what you really want! Old school cult movies are on a permenant loop on one wall, and comfy couches and ottomans adorn the basement level space. Friendly and knowledgable staff are propped behind the very adequate bar, ready to talk the finer points of vodka distillation or the characteristics of the Mornington Peninsula Pinot.
