Venue type: Club
Review: Simon Woodhouse
Amber Lounge on Lonsdale Street pulls the crowds well. It's warm, orangey and has the aura and feel of a European bar. Patrons are out to party hard, with the crowd quite mainstream and laid back. Being in Lonsdale Street, everyone is generally down-to-earth and approachable.
The layout is traditionally clubby: cushy booths adorn the wall, and two bars - one large rear bar, and one smaller, more intimate front one. Emphasis is on standing room. There's some good mingling action at the bar and Amber Lounge is a favourite with bucks and hens nights.
Always Busy
Queues and double door staff not uncommon.
Our tip: Phone ahead late afternoon on this one.
Music Most Nights
The DJs here are befitting of the venue and dish out a clubby sound. You know the type. Loads of dancing, right through till the end.
Second Opinion
With soft, warm lighting and cushioned booths, Amber Lounge is well named after a glowing jewel. The inviting ambience has proven popular, as Amber Lounge is a stayer in the Melbourne bar scene.
