Review: Julie Whiting
Since the late 1800s this popular local has been serving up a recipe of good food and drink and friendly staff, and little has changed. Sure, the decor isn't winning any awards, but the cheerful atmosphere makes up for that.
On winter weekends a sea of navy washes in as Blues supporters make their way to (and from) Optus Oval. "It's the most important part of the game" one exclaimed in our presence. A treasured aspect of the Great Northern is that it hasn't succumbed to the Tooheys takeover, and still serves Carlton and VB on tap.
The regulars - a mix of students and others who live in the area, won't be afraid to challenge you to a game of pool, so make sure you've got your good underwear on!
Always Busy
With a tried and true formula, the Great Northern's popularity hasn't waned in all these years.
