Venue type: Bar
Review: Julie Whiting
Hi-Fi calls itself a Bar and Ballroom, and while to our knowledge no ballroom dancing occurs here these days, we guess it is a modern version of one. The downstairs room hosts a variety of local and international bands, DJs and even comedy acts (especially during the Melbourne Comedy Festival). The non-stage area can act as a dance floor or, filled with rows of chairs, an attentive auditorium. Upstairs, separated by a glass as a sort of 'viewing area', there is a bright and comfortable bar with lots of tables and stools.
Always Busy
Hi-Fi continues to be an institution with the live music set.
Music Most Nights
It's all about gigs at Hi-Fi.
Popular With Travellers
The well-known acts that grace the stage here attract people from far and wide.
Second Opinion
The classy looking front entrance can be deceptive given the rock bands that frequent Hi-Fi. Yep, it's all about gigs here, and maybe the occasional dance party or so. The medium size of the venue keeps the band personal - it's not a massive hall like some. It's a popular venue, which means arriving earlier rather than later is recommended.
