Venue type: Bar
Review: Julie Whiting
With black and white televisions flickering silently in every corner and an oddly majestic mannequin centre-piece, this quirky bar is far from nothing.
Retro furniture and vaulted pine ceilings in a 150-year-old building make for a great spot to indulge in the cocktail specials Bar Nothing has become known for, so kick back and swirl that swizzle stick!

Comfy couches, cheap cocktails ($3.90 each or 3 for $11) - brilliant.

This little bar is very easy to overlook, tucked away as it is inconspicuously in a very residential area in Carlton North. We ventured in because of its proximity to where we live (1 block away). We had been told repeatedly that it was a cool place but nobody could have prepared us for how laid back and cool it was in a shabby chic type of way.
The room is reminiscent of a set of a 1950s play, with old floral upholstered armchairs and black and white TVs. There is a mannequin, and lampshades which wouldn't look out of place in a terribly cheesy motel, yet surprisingly the whole look works. The staff are easy going and spend a lot of time chatting amongst themselves. Cocktails are allegedly cheap but we didn't sample them due to the fear that we might actually like, and at the price could have easily consumed the 6 for 20 dollars! We left early, reluctantly, due to extreme tiredness leftover from a day spent hung-over. More people were arriving at 11pm and I'm sure it was hopping all night.
I'm definitely returning and would seriously consider the hiring of the bar for 15 plus people - and you get free cocktails and food...

This little bar is tucked away in a residential part of Carlton North, just near Nicholas St. It's a top-notch bona-fide cool place. Relax, and enjoy its shabby chick. Try out some of the insanely cheap cocktails on offer. How can you go past three for $11?

What a place; the bartenders are great guys and gals! Such cheap drinks... We have become the in house regulars and will never turn our backs away on this place! It's a must see and do, but tell only those who you must, its a small place and can get annoying when crowded!
