Venue type: Pub    Review: Liz Hinds
A gathering place for local residents and workers alike, this pub is friendly and welcoming, and also features a jukebox and pool table. An ideal place to get a feel for this area of Melbourne.
Readers' Reviews
After many incarnations since 1875 (see previous reviews) and having suffered the woes of the 20th century; wars, depressions and gentrification, this iconic working class watering hole is reinvented as a beacon of inner Melbourne hospitality.

Renovated in 2003 providing a dining room and bar with a hint of rich European elegance and a vibrant public bar with all the required accoutrements (pool table, conviviality and chook raffles) it has gradually built a steady clientele from the local business and young urban families.

Mien Host Peter has a long history in hospitality and pub broking and with his family provide exceptional conviviality. Peter has also recruited outstanding kitchen staff led by Melissa Mc Grath an excellent journeyperson who has a deep history in both pubs and fine dining and aspires to bring excellence in "home cooking" to the table and indeed she does.

I have been down to the Royal Mail a number of times over the last year and I can't believe the change, while these guys are still remaining true to their $10 meals, they have been so adventurous in their new decor (yes that is really a painting of Kamal you see) and the food. I have never been a $10 parma girl but the varied menu satisfies everyone s tastes and move on over wine experts, the list here is something to really enjoy.
