Review: Julie Whiting
Diva does small, grungy glamour with big sounds and a good getaway upstairs to look down on it all. Predominantly a gay and lesbian venue, Diva welcomes all who seek a dancy scene, catchy 70s and 80s tunes and a good night out. Pet Shop Boys and many other classic gay tracks will almost certainly be played at high volume for your dancing pleasure.
Readers' Reviews
Nestled amongst the various restaurants and clubs, Diva is probably the best night out on Commercial Road. Its best night is Saturday, where you can hear the latest dance, as well as fine tunes from the 70s and 80s. It can get rather cramped, especially near the bar area, but it has an upstairs balcony that is comfortable for dancing.
The majority of the crowd is gay, bisexual, or lesbian, but straight people are definitely welcome, as the atmosphere is very friendly. It has a very relaxed and liberated atmosphere, which can be enjoyed by anyone with an open mind. It is much better and more fun than Xchange or Market.
Drag queens also perform numbers, and you can see entertaining impersinations of Kylie Minogue, Cher, Dolly Parton, Madonna, Christina Aguilera etc.
Diva is recommended for fans of 70s and 80s music, and also for people who want to have a fun, carefree night.
