Review: Simon Woodhouse
'A little country pub in the heart of Melbourne', read the coasters. And the Elms sure has that family-run feel. A loyal mix of both blue and white collar male drinkers flock here religiously, with the emphasis well and truly being on the beer and spirits. The Elms Family Hotel also does some extremely cheap pub meals.
With an early closing hour, the Elms Family Hotel is a great traditional Aussie pub, right across from Parliament House.
Note: no politicians allowed.
Outdoor Area / Beer Garden
Very much in the know, the Elms Family Hotel offers a creaky little wooden area out the back.

A bastion of cheap pots and authentic pub food in the CBD. The chicken parma is fantastic and only $10.

One of the last Melbourne bastions as far as old style pubs go. A wonderful warm family hotel, where everyone really does know your name! Nice mix of inner city suits, blue collar tradies and old timers gives it an ambience you'll enjoy. Ladies note. You won't be cruised in here, so it's an awesome place for a cold beer... without the leers.

We have been known to drop into the Elms after work on the odd occasion and I can promise you the beers the best in Melbourne, good old time fashion pub without all the frills just a cold beer friendly service and no noisy pokies or races blaring in your ears all day either.

This pub has the best beer in Melbourne. Fresh, crisp and icy cold. The clientele are great and the staff professional, congenial and great fun. I love coming here for a beer as I know I'll be in a relaxed atmosphere with an easy going bunch of people. It really is just like a country pub.
