Whilst walking down the top end of Fitzroy Street searching for a late night drink, you'd miss the Snakepit if you didn't know it was there. Walking through the crowd at the Snakepit you can't help but feel a close association with the fellow drinkers because the place is so easily missed from the main street. That's the beauty of this place. It's a very groovy bar filled to the rim with backpackers, locals, artists, students, professionals, you name it. It is long and narrow with a pool table at the end and a great bar for any night of the week. When the streets are empty and you need a pint to discuss the movie you just saw or simply need a late night drink, the Snakepit is the perfect hideaway. So grab a pint, sit on a bar stool or play some pool and enjoy.

Whatever night of the week you crawl down to the Snakepit, you won't be drinking on your own, that's a sure thing. Spend half an hour in the Snakepit and you'll detect an accent from somewhere around the world. Backpackers from all over the place come here for a drink, adding to its diversity.
Readers' Reviews
My wife and I decided on a sougourn to St Kilda on saturday night to watch the footy and take in a few beers where we stumbled on The George Public Bar.
After suffering for years in Sydney from snooty tarts behind the bar and aggressive imbeciles on the door, The George was a revelation.

Super friendly bar staff and an absolute diamond of a bloke called Dave on the door made our weekend. The champion locals, travellers from all over and loud music(CDs) only added to the atmosphere.
