Readers' Reviews
Khyat's is a Brighton institution, a favourite watering hole for many, and an escape from Brighton's snobbier side. Completely pokie-free, it offers lively, old-fashioned service in a choice of settings; the front bar is reminiscent of the traditional Australian public bar - light and airy, with timber floors, great windows, one TV in the corner and an L-shaped bar that travels the perimeter of the room - it means you're never more than 6 feet away from getting a drink! This bar is a favourite for lots of tradies, uni students and locals looking for a cold one. Khyat's often has music on the weekends, and attracts a lively younger crowd in this bar.

The lounge is small and cosy, with dark timber booths and exposed beams. It reminds you of an English/Irish pub, and true to form they offer a choice of local and imported beers on tap, including Guiness, Kilkenny, Stella, Boddingtons, Old Speckled Hen, etc etc. This bar has a terrific feel, and still offers meals over the counter at reasonable prices. The chicken parmas are award-winning - Khyat's was voted 'best chicken parma' in a recent pub survey! Better still, you can drink outside at a small beer garden.

The restaurant offers inside and outside dining, and way better than standard pub fare. The menu varies often and the meals are always great, although a little dearer in this part of the pub. The patio is great on a summer's evening for a meal. Great wine list also.

Finally, they have a great function room with its own bar at reasonable hiring prices.

Khyat's has leapt forward over the last two years since it was taken over by two brothers, Julian and Bill. Unlike the previous owners, the boys pride themselves on personally knowing their customers so there's always a warm welcome!

In my opinion, one of Melbourne's best pubs!
