The old HeraldSun journos' pub has been renovated and is now without a doubt the coolest spot on Flinders street. This split level bar has the style and spunk that would bring pleasure to the soul of even the most discerning sipper.
Four levels, two big bars, funky (zebra etc.) carpets, wallpaper and other details tucked into its many corners - there are many nooks and crannies around this place where you can either hide or find a different decor which goes nicely with what you are wearing. Plus an intimate dancefloor on the basement level.
The staff at Phoenix are very hospitable, which compliments the harmony they have achieved of classy and cosy. The attendees are that great 'from all walks of life' mix, not too overtaken by the 'after work crowd'. Without a doubt the best part though, is the musique. Very fine indeed. We'll say no more though, because if you blink you will miss this place, which we think adds a little to the charm ;)
Second Opinion
Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. Just that right blend between a pub and a bar - shall we call it a par? Brown and olive sort of colours, and really chilled out bar staff make this par a great place to get some beers in whilst still being in a cool environment. No Melbourne pub crawl should be without a stop-in at Phoenix. It's that good.
