Venue type: Bar
Review: Carrie Lindsay
Located at the top of Bourke Street, and organised over two levels, Spleen Central is a great place to go for a quiet drink and to catch up with friends.
The bar is located adjacent to the entrance, with plenty of bar stools to rest the weary legs. Tables and chairs are located towards the rear for those who venture past the bar, and there are comfy couches upstairs to accommodate larger groups.
The interior decor comprises an eclectic mix of pieces, which we're told, have been salvaged from auctions and garage sales. At Spleen Central, the atmosphere is smooth and the music jazzy!
Second Opinion
One of those cluttery bars that are instantly cosy with the dim lighting and mismatched furniture. Bonus is that you only need a handful of people to start having problems getting to the bar. One of the originals, and still one of the best.

We love this place, warm, cosy and very good value. With all the old sofas and brick-a-brac, it is like drinking in your Grandma's living room!

Went to Spleen central last night to find what I think is the best place to chill out after a hard day of work. It's warm, relaxing and the bar staff are the nicest staff at a pub I've ever come across. Last night being Thursday 23rd April 2009 was an open mic night where people came in with acoustic guitars, bongo (think it was a Djembe) and that kicked off at 9pm. The person hosting the night was Brad. He started mixing his songs with originals and covers. he was good too. then he introduced the other 5 which did around 5 songs each and again the talent was great. then others started turning up from 9-11 to play and then the crowd became bigger as people would just walk by then hear the live music and by it came to 11:30pm the place turned into a party. The host Brad and another guy who sang and played guitar earlier did a duo. think it was Brendan. They only met that night and it was like they had been playing together for years. It was amazing to see the place turn from a quiet chilled out pub to this packed out pub where everyone were singing, dancing, drinking and just having a great time. I met the owner Ivan who I have to say is one truly great person. You could see he loves his place and just enjoys seeing everyone having a great time.
It came to 2am and I had to go home but when i left I looked back to see a place that everyone gets along and is there to have fun. This place shall be my new drinking hole. specially on those open mic nights.
