Review: Julie Whiting
Remember socialite Regine Zylberburg? The lady who first introduced turntables to nightspots in Paris during the 1950s, who owned 24 posh nightclubs and who famously taught a former king of England to do the Twist? We don't either, but she revolutionised nightlife worldwide last century and deserves the homage paid to her in the naming of Chez Regine.
Loud music doesn't dominate the venue - rather, upbeat jazz and funk reflect a relaxed but energetic atmosphere. Drinks wise, cocktails are a speciality, along with a decent wine list.
In the face of liquor licence reform and media focus highlighting big, high risk venues, Chez Regine focuses on good service in an intimate atmosphere - with a touch of 1950s Paris thrown in. There's a touch of Gin Palace and Supper Club as well.
