A far cry from its former life as the bustling St Kilda Railway Station, is this heavenly Indo-inspired spot whose fit-out was imported from Bali. Teak tables, lounges, carved Buddhas, giant stone carvings and clusters of antique Chinese lanterns set the scene.
The cocktail carafes on offer make one feel as though they are on a hammock at the Laguna, while the wine list was compiled to suit the cuisines of East Asia.
Why the name Miss Shanghai? We are told it is a cheeky cross-reference to the age-old street trade of Grey St St Kilda, and the beauty contest for prostitutes in China during the Quing Dynasty (1644- 1911) the winner of which was crowned Miss Shanghai.
