Venue type: Pub    Review: Julie Whiting
Opposite Trades Hall Council, this pub's heyday from the 50s up to the 80s as the watering hole for a legion of Labour and union luminaries including former Prime Minister Bob Hawke, is a thing of the past. A lot of unions have moved away, leaving a more residential area which is much quieter than the other end of Lygon Street. Pub renovations make it worthwhile to walk the extra block though. The John Curtin can be enjoyed for its front bar, good bistro, and warm, cosy vibe.
Live Music Venue
Upstairs is the huge John Curtin Bandroom with gigs on towards the end of the week.
Readers' Reviews
Counter meals are an absolute bargain and are ridiculously good value, including the parmas and steaks on the menu.

Upstairs a live music venue should be very interesting.

Hooray for the Curtin! From its previous boringness to be now funked up with minimal effort duly assisted by the cruisy staff, exceptional choice of background music and arrogantly splendid dj's mixing up a musical confection just for you.

The menu is a tight-arse's dream with evening meals all under $10 and the big screen is perfect to watch the Tigers have yet another disappointing season!
